Religious Education at Stanley Grove Academy

At Stanley Grove Academy, we deliver Religious Education using the NATRE curriculum, which forms the basis of our scheme of work and aligns closely with the Wakefield Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. This ensures that our teaching is both locally relevant and nationally informed, providing clear progression and high-quality resources to support learning.

We believe that Religious Education helps children to understand the beliefs, values and traditions of different people and communities. Through the study of differing  religions, pupils explore festivals, sacred texts, places of worship and the ways in which faith influences daily life.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced and builds progressively. In the Early Years and Key Stage 1, pupils begin by exploring simple ideas about God, creation, special books and celebrations. As they move into Key Stage 2, they engage with deeper questions about belief, identity, morality and the impact of religion in the modern world. Pupils are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, compare viewpoints and reflect on what people believe and why.

Through discussion, enquiry and reflection, we aim for every child to develop respect for others, curiosity about the wider world and the confidence to express their own ideas and values with sensitivity and understanding.

Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or any part of Religious Education (RE), in accordance with current education legislation and should contact the school to make an appointment to discuss this with the Head Teacher.
