We have a busy group of Local governors who meet with a focus on Curriculum, Safeguarding, Pupil Premium, Health and Safety and SEND.
There are various types of governors on the governing body including parents, staff and co-opted governors who have been chosen due to the skills and experiences they can bring to the school.

I have been a teacher for over 30 years in the Wakefield Area. I have taught across the primary age range and love the role. I became a Head Teacher in 2008 and I am very proud of the school and the staff and pupils I have the pleasure to work with. I aim for every child to have the best experience in school and have a childhood that they look back on with fondness. I want school to prepare children to be the best people in the community that they can be and to be successful and happy in their life choices. I hold the National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) and have been a specialist, trainer and auditor for the Jerry Clay English Hub, where I support schools across Wakefield, Leeds and South Yorkshire.
We are trusted with people’s most treasured possessions in our job and this is a privilege we value in our school.
The values and experiences I want for every child has to be the passion of every member of the school. I ensure that staff are high quality and well trained; this investment impacts on the attainment, progress and experiences which our children have. Reading is a real priority in the school and can be seen in every space and classroom. We love our outdoors and invest in outdoor learning to improve wellbeing and enjoyment. I feel very proud to lead such a dedicated team and to see how the children flourish.
Our Governing body work hard to ensure that children’s experiences in our school is the best that they can be. We have a commitment to high quality teaching and putting reading at the heart of our curriculum and including outdoor learning and climate awareness in school.
The vision of ‘ready for school, ready for life,’ embodies our passion for our children to have a rich and full curriculum experience, which will enable them to become happy and successful.

I have taught for over eighteen years in the Wakefield Local Authority. During this time, I have taught across the primary phase from Nursery to Year Six. Currently, I am part of the Senior Leadership Team, the SENCo and one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads within school.
I am a staff governor.
To support the school in ensuring the best possible outcomes for the children.
As a school we are fortunate that the Governors and the Headteacher invest in employing a Speech and Language Therapist (SALT). This ensures our children’s speech needs are identified early and they receive timely support. Parents are also able to meet with the speech and language therapist in school to further support their child.
Working together with parents, teachers, support staff and other experts ensures the best possible outcomes; this has a real impact for the children at Stanley Grove.

I have lived in Stanley all my life, most of which was walking distance from Stanley Grove School. I am an IT project manager at a large retailer in Leeds and I am a STEM ambassador.
I am a Co-opted Governor and take the lead on PE and Maths. I sit on the Standards and Pupils Committee. / work on the GDPR working group to implement the changes which impact the school.
My son went to Stanley Grove. He benefitted greatly by attending Stanley Grove, in both education and personal development and / wanted to give something back while he was there. I continued after he left because of the great work done in the school for the children and community of Stanley.
There are many tasks as governor that help the school, from reviewing policies and procedures and supporting the school with various issues, but my best day as a governor is when I spent the day in school interviewing different groups of children in each year group about their activities in PE and how they thought it impacted their physical and mental wellbeing. / was amazed at the diverse personalities in the school and their enthusiasm and eloquence speaking on the subject. It bodes well for the future of our children.
I am married with two primary-aged children and currently work as an Executive Headteacher in Wakefield. Over the past seven years, I have led schools across two multi-academy trusts, developing a strong track record in driving school improvement and achieving rapid, sustained progress. I hold the National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) and bring a wealth of experience in leading high-performing schools. I have in-depth knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 curricula, and a proven ability to lead high-quality teaching and learning across all phases. My leadership experience spans curriculum development, assessment, teacher development, and inclusive practice. I also have specialist expertise in safeguarding, SEND, and pastoral support. As a trained Mental Health First Aider and a DfE Senior Mental Health Lead, I am passionate about supporting the wellbeing of both pupils and staff and creating positive, inclusive school cultures.
I became a governor to contribute to school improvement at a wider strategic level, beyond my own setting. I was particularly drawn to this role due to the school’s excellent reputation and its position within a forward-thinking multi-academy trust like Accomplish. I’m proud to support Stanley Grove’s continued success and development.
Co-opted/Appointed by Trust Board
I have lived in Stanley for nearly 8 years and have a son who attends Stanley Grove School. I am a Senior Probation Officer working locally with lead roles in child safeguarding, domestic abuse, and female offending. My day job involves managing a team of Probation Practitioners who are responsible for public protection and rehabilitation. I attend many of the local safeguarding meetings where joint decisions are made to protect and care for children and vulnerable adults in Wakefield. My son also keeps me busy with lots of his activities including gymnastics, athletics, and tennis.
Life is busy already, but I made the decision for two reasons, firstly I want to have a greater understanding of school and how decisions are made. Every child matters and using my professional knowledge and experience I hope I can combine both to support school, parent’s and children during their journey.
Secondly, my son started his education at Stanley School during COVID, I’m a lone parent and whilst I was at work, school provided stability, care and a focus which was the best start he could have experienced during testing times. In return I wanted to give something back.
I’m still a new Govenor with lots to learn. To date I’ve contributed to meetings, completed the required learning and I intend to visit school at the start of the new term. I’m looking forward to the next school year and understanding how I can support the school further.
Parent Governor
I moved to Wakefield in 2019 and have a son who attends Stanley Grove Academy. My day-to-day job as a Senior Risk Manager for a Japanese Bank involves managing all aspects of risk and compliance over several different jurisdictions, so it is important that I look at things at a regional and divisional level.
When I made the decision to apply for the Governor role, I wanted to bring my skillset to the role and understand how the school makes the decisions it does as I am passionate about giving all children maximum opportunities to discover their full potential through education and extra curriculum activities alike, whatever their background. I am a mental health first aider therefore I also wanted to ensure the school environment supports pupil and staff health and wellbeing.
I have recently attended the Strategic conference held by Accomplish Trust and there is still lots to learn about the role. I have taken on Pupil Premium governor role and feel I can make a real impact with this going forward.
I am looking forward to the next academic year working together with parents, teachers, and other experts to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved which in turn will have real impact for the children at Stanley Grove.
I have been a teacher for over 15 years and recently joined Stanley Grove as Deputy Head, having previously worked as an Assistant Head. One of my greatest passions in education is supporting the personal development of every child—helping them to grow not just academically, but socially, emotionally and morally. I believe that school should be a place where all children feel seen, valued and empowered to become the very best version of themselves. I’m also a passionate advocate for reading and the transformative power it has in opening minds and building confidence. I was drawn to Stanley Grove by the team’s unwavering commitment to securing the best possible outcomes for every child. It is clear that children are at the heart of every decision made here, and I feel incredibly proud to be part of a community that holds such a deep sense of care, responsibility and ambition for its pupils.
I wanted to become a governor to support the school in achieving the best possible outcomes for all children. I’m passionate about education and believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. Being a governor allows me to contribute to the strategic direction of the school, offer support and challenge where needed, and play a role in ensuring that all decisions are made with the children’s best interests at heart.
Although I have only recently joined the school, I’ve already been involved in several projects that I believe have made a meaningful impact. I’ve helped shape the English curriculum to ensure it is both engaging and ambitious for all learners, and I’ve contributed to the development of concept maps across the foundation subjects to support clear and coherent progression. I also organised a successful Read-a-thon, which not only promoted a love of reading but also raised valuable funds for the school. In addition, I’ve worked with colleagues to improve learning environments across the school, creating spaces that are both stimulating and supportive for children’s learning.
