Design And Technology

At Stanley Grove Academy we believe that Design and Technology enables children to become creative problem-solvers who can design, make and evaluate purposeful products. Through practical learning, pupils explore how things are made, how they work and how design choices impact users and the wider world.

Across school, children design and make products within three key areas: Structures, Textiles and Food. As pupils move through school, they develop skills such as cutting and shaping materials, joining and strengthening structures, using mechanisms including levers, pulleys, gears and cams, and creating textile products for real-life purposes. In food, pupils learn to prepare and cook healthy dishes using fresh ingredients, building confidence and independence.

Our curriculum builds progressively from early construction and simple mechanisms in KS1 to product development, sustainable design and upcycling in upper KS2. Pupils learn about designers, test products, consider user needs and evaluate their work to make improvements.

Our aim is for every child to leave Stanley Grove Academy with practical skills, creativity and confidence and an understanding of how design shapes everyday life.
